William Bingham was born on April 8, 1752 in Philadelphia. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, class of 1768 and went on to become a founder and director of the Pennsylvania Bank (later known as the Bank of North America). Bingham was also a trustee of Dickinson College and president of the Philadelphia and Lancaster Turnpike Company.
